10 things to see in Seoul

I Seoul U! Seoul is a big city, here are 10 things you should see and do when you visit! This list is compiled based on my opinions. 

1. Gyeongbokgung
Right in the middle of Seoul is a pretty huge palace. You can see the palace from the street with an impressive mountain backdrop.

It's a short walk from City Hall Station.

2. Trick Eye Museum

There are a few museums like Trick Eye around Seoul. It's probably the most popular one though.
It's located in the busy area of Hongdae. It's great to spend an hour or so there taking photographs. It's best to go as a group so you can get a few decent pictures in.
Trick Eye also has an ice museum, where they have a room with ice sculptures and an ice slide.

3. Seoul Tower (Namsan) and the Live Museum

Namsan Tower (Seoul Tower) quite a small tower compared to others around the world. What stands out is that it is located on top of a mountain. You can choose to walk up the mountain to the entrance, or take the cable car. I opted for the cable car.

There are a few restaurants and cafes at the entrance. You can also opt to see the Live museum which is similar to the Trick Eye Museum.

4. Myeongdong

This is a busy shopping street. There are a million make up stores! It's the place to be if you want to do a spot of shopping.
What makes it nice is the market they have on the street. Vendors sell various good! There are some delicious food options too. 

5. DMZ Tour!

Seoul is pretty close to North Korea. You don't realise it until you look on google maps. The DMZ is about an hour away from Seoul. You have to book a tour. Most tours pick you up and drop you back off again. It's totally worth it! 

6. Racoon Cafe, Cat Cafe, Dog Cafe...SHEEP CAFE!

There are many themed cafes in Seoul. The usual dog cafes and cat cafes are plentiful. These are fun! There is also a racoon cafe and a sheep cafe! Yes, you read right! The racoon cafe is pretty cool. It's a coffee shop with a separate room with two big racoons. They also had two baby racoons and a corgi.
The sheep cafe was open but the sheep were at a "farm" due to the heat.

7. Insadong

Insadong is a traditional Korean street. It's the go to place to buy traditional gifts. On weekends, the street is blocked off and merchants set up stalls.

8. Itaewon

Foreigner central!
If you are missing that bit of home, Itaewon is for you. There are many foreign restaurants. You can eat South Afrian food to Indian to Thai food! Everything is pretty expensive though, about 20,000W per meal.

9. The Story of King Sejong Museum

Near Gyeongbokgung, there is a stature of King Sejong. It's pretty big, you can't miss it.
Underneath is a museum about him. It's a free museum and it's pretty big.


10. Hongik University (Hongdae)

Hongdae, one of the biggest areas, similar to Gangnam and Itaewon. It's pretty busy and popular with the foreigners. On the subway map, it is labelled as Hongik University.
There is a lot to do here from shopping to various museums.
There are some nice bingsu cafes!
