Korean Food

Here are a list of Korean dishes I have tried and have photo evidence of! I am aiming to try everything while I am here in Korea! I'll update this as I try things :]! Enjoy!

Meat

불고기 
Bulgogi. Thinly sliced grilled marinated beef. 


돼지갈비 
Dwaeji Galbi. Pork ribs marinated. You get a rib, and attached a long bit of meat which you grill and cut up. 



삼겹살
Samgyeopsal. Unseasoned pork belly. Very common and delicious. Sometimes it's cut for you, other times you do it yourself. 


닥갈비
Dak Galbi. Stir fried marinated chicken. Gochujang sauce. Various vegetables, cabbage, onions, tteok (rice cake). 


막창
Makchang. Grilled pork large intestines. Served with deongjang (a certain sauce). My favourite dish so far in Korea!! 

생오리
Saeng Ori. Fresh duck, grilled on the BBQ.

주먹고기 
Really thick seasoned fatty pork! it is delicious! 

한우특수부위
Hanoo beef! Similar to wagyu steak. Check out the marbling! 
It was expensive, 70,000 for 400g. 

무뼈닭발
Dak Bal. Chicken feet! I'm not new to chicken feet because I used to eat it all the time with my Chinese family. These were spicy! And also had no bones. 

훈제오리
Hunjae Ori. Smoked Duck. 
This is so good, you grill it lightly and it tastes just like bacon. 


촉발 
Jokbal. Sliced pigs trotters. Sounds minging but it's beautiful! 

돈가스
Tonkatsu. Similar to the Japanese version Tori Katsu. Battered pork! Sometimes by itself. Sometimes covered in cheese with a nice sauce and served with cabbage. 

보쌈
Bossam. A cut of pork belly. Usually served with kimchi, oysters etc. 


육회
Yuk Hoe. Raw sliced beef. The second photograph tasted so much better! Amazing! If you love blue steak, you'd love this! 

불고기
Bulgogi. This is one of my favourite dishes here in Korea. It's made using beef. It's delicious and it's becoming more popular in the west. 

두부 김치
Dubu Kimchi. 
Tofu, pork and kimchi. It's so good, one of the best foods I have had here in Korea. It's got a sweetish taste. 

제육볶음
Jaeyuk Bokkum. 
Stir fried pork with various vegetables. Sometimes, it can be spicy, depending on where you order it. I love eating this on top of rice (제육덮밥 - Jaeyuk Deop Bap)

말고기
Mal Gogi
Horse meat!
Don't know it until you have tried it. There are various kinds from raw to cooked. This one was the sashimi version, and it was divine, the meat was so soft. 

흑돼지
Yuk Dweji 
Black pig, common in Jeju. More expensive than normal pig and it tastes the same! 

Grain Dishes/Noodle Dishes

비빔밥
Bibimbap. Mixed rice. Rice topped with various vegetables, sometimes meat and egg too. Served with a helping of gochujang, red pepper paste. 

산채비빔밥
San Chae Bibimbap. 
Mountain bibimbap. This form of bibimbap is usually sold near mountains. They use mountain vegetables. Usually the rice is served separate. I love this bibimbap because I hate mixing my rice! 


김밥
Kimbap. A snack, similar to the Japanese sushi roll but less "posh". It's considered a picnic food and it can range in filling. You can get it filled with tuna, vegetables, ham, radish..etc. 

냉면
Naengmyeon. Cold noodles. There are various versions. It's served cold. Sometimes with loads of ice, sometimes with crushed ice...the soup base is made out of meat stock. 

잡채
Japchae. One of the most common foods here in Korea for lunches and picnics. Glass noodle stir-fry! So simple, yet so delicious. 


Dumplings



만두
Mandu. Dumplings. Various fillings from only vegetables to pork meat. 

Stews/Soups/Porridge/Hotpot

삼계탕
Samgyetang. Chicken ginseng soup! A soup made with small hens. It's stuffed with ginseng (hwanggi), glutinous rice and various other flavourings. 



죽 
Juk! Rice porridge. You can get various kinds! I love this stuff. 

해물뚝배기
Haemul Ddukbaegi. Seafood hotpot. Various seaood with abalone, mussels clams etc in a spicy soup. 

순두부찌개
Sundubu Jiggae. Uncurdled tofu, various veggies, meat with gochujang or gochujaru. Such a good meal! 


감자탕
Gamgyetang. Spicy pork spine soup. It's really good. Amazing for when you're sick! 

샤브샤브
Shabu Shabu. Korean style hot pot. 
Cook the meat and vegetables in the soup. 

두부찌개
Dubu Jiggae. Regular tofu stew. I don't like this dish so much. 

염소탕 
Goat Stew/Soup
the meat was like lamb! The broth wasn't well seasoned though. 

굴순두부
Gul Sun Dubu. 
Oyster tofu stew. Delicious. 

말갈비찜
Mal Galbi Jjim
Horse rib stew
The smell is a bit off putting due to the spices they used, but it was delicious! The meat fell right off the bone! You can also get a beef version. 

사골탕
Sa Gol Tang
Bone Marrow Soup

제주 해물탕
Jeju Haemul Tang
Spicy seafood stew, with whole crabs.

Jeon

해물파전
Haemul Pajeon. Seafood Pancake! Really good comfort food! 

Seafood

Hoe (Pronounce Hu-Weh)
Hoe. Raw sliced fish. Similar to sashimi, but not as delicately cut. 

꼬막 and 꼬막볶음밥
Ggomak, Ggomak bokkeumbap! 
Cockles! And Cockles fried rice! 

산낙지
Sannakji. 
Raw octopus. You can get two kinds. Whole LIVE octopus! You eat it while it's alive and wriggling or...they kill it for you. Don't be fooled though, the tentacles will still be wriggling and the suckers still work!

Korean Chinese Food

자장면 
Jajamyeon
This one is Cheese jajangmyeon,
Noodles in a mild black bean sauce. 

Other

백반
Baek ban. 
A "normal" meal. Basically, it's rice and side dishes. 
There are restaurants which also sell meat dishes like bulgogi (pictured). 

보리밥 뷔페
Boribap Buffet. A Korean style buffet with food similar to that of the baek ban. 
Rice, sides, meat and soup! 

핫도그 
Korean style hot dogs. Franks, covered in batter and deep fried. Sometimes with various fillings like cheese. 

빙수
Bing Su
Shaved ice, with various toppings. The traditional one is red bean, but there are others like mango and berries. 
Super cool on a hot day!
