10 things to do in Tokyo

1. Visit the Edo-Toykyo Museum

Cost: 600 yen

Opening hours: 9.30-17.30 (Saturday 9.30-19.30)

How to get there: 

The closest subway station is Ryogoku station (Toei Odeo Line), it's then a short walk. 

About: 

The museum displays various things from the Edo period in Japan. There are a few interactive attractions. Many displays are life size replicas. My favourite display was the one which showed you the differences in school food, the metro and other daily items through the years. 

2. Go up to the Skytree tower during the day and night

Skytree during the day. 

Skytree during the night from the hotel. 

Cost: To go up, it ranges from 1030-2060 yen for on the day tickets.
There are time allocated slots too due to the congestion of people.
Opening hours: 8.00-22:00
How to get there: 
There are two subway stations right next to Skytree.
Tokyo Skytree station. This is on the Tobu Skytree line which is not part of Tokyo Metro.
Oshiage Station which is on the Asakusa line.

About:
The Skytree tower is worth going to. It is the tallest working broadcasting tower in the world. Not only is there a tower, but there is a huge shopping mall inside. You don't have to purchase tickets for the shopping mall.
Also, there is an elevator which takes you to the 30th and 31st floor, you can see an amazing view of the city.
I advise you to go during the night too. The tower lights up and it's nice to see.

3. Go to Tokyo tower at night.

Cost: To go up the tower it costs 900 yen for the main observatory at 150m and 700 yen for the special observatory at 250m. 

Opening hours: 9.00-23.00

How to get there: Get the subway to Akanebashi on the Odeo line. Leave the station and you should see it right in front of you. 

About:

Tokyo tower broadcasts signals to certain media outlets like TBS. It once transmitted television and radio.

During the day, there is not much to see. It looks like a red tower used for broadcasting shows. But at night time, it lights up, and the colours are brought to life. 

I didn't go up the tower, but I assume it's much nicer at night. 

4. Check out one of the many shrines. 

Cost: Free (donate money). I was told you donate a coin with a hole in it such as the 50 yen. 

Opening times: All shrines vary. Some close up for the night, whilst others stay open. 

How to get there: 

The shrine pictured is called Ushima Shrine in Sumida park.

The closest station is Tokyo Skytree on the Tobu Skytree line (not Tokyo Subway) or Oshiage on the Toei Asakusa line. 

You will have to walk about 10 minutes towards Sumida park, just before the river. 

About: 

There are many shrines in Tokyo. Some are now tourist attractions and places of worship whilst others are solely places of worship. 

You can bow to the Gods if you wish. It's a nice experience. There are pictures to show you how to bow. First you should wash your hands and mouth using the water provided. 

5. Go see Senso-ji, Asakusa Kannan Temple.

Cost: Free (Donation at the shrine)

Opening times: 6.00-17.00 for the main temple. The temple grounds are always open. 

How to get there: The closest station is Asakusa station which is on the Ginza Line. It's a short walk from there. 

About:

This temple is the oldest temple in Japan, completed in 645. 

There is a huge Japanese lanton. Sometimes there are entertainers on the grounds. You can bow if you wish to, and many people do! 

Not far from the temple is the Nakamise shopping street. Just walk straight from the temple. 

6. Take a wander through Yanaka Ginza. 

Cost: Free

Opening hours: Varies per store. 

How to get there: 

Get the subway to Sendagi station on Chiyoda line. 

About: 

It's a short shopping street where you still get the old atmosphere of old Tokyo. They called it shitamachi. There are many stores with various produce. Some sell groceries whilst others sell really nice souvenirs. It's quite a nice atmosphere and it wasn't too crowded. 

7. Tokyo Character Street

Cost: Depends on what you want to buy. It can be quite expensive!

Opening hours: 10.00-20.30

How to get there: 

Get the subway to Tokyo Station on the Marunouchi line. The mall is within walking distance. 

About: 

The mall is full of character stores which are popular at the moment. There are many things to buy. 

It can get pretty expensive, so watch those pennys! 

There is also a food court too, with many restaurants. 

8. See the sumo museum.

Cost: For the museum, free! But if there is a sumo match, you can't get in and have to buy sumo tickets. 

Opening hours: 10am-16.30

How to get there: 

Take the subway to Ryogoku Station (Toei Odeo Line). The museum is directly behind the Edo-Tokyo museum. 

About: 

The museum opened in 1954 to coincide with the professional sumo stadium. There are a lot of pictures of past and present sumo wrestlers and other artefacts. 

It's quite small! But totally worth the visit. 

9. Go into a purikura photobooth and the many arcades. 

Cost: ~400 yen

Opening hours: Various depending on the arcade

How to get there: 

This one pictured is in Shinjuku, on the main street. To get there, get the subway to Shinjuku station on the Marunouchi Line. 

About:

There are many arcades in Tokyo with many purikura machines. You will find one in each area! 

They are most popular with young teens, but older people tend to go in them too. 

You can edit the pictures to make yourself look kawaii aka cute! And then they print out into tiny stickers.

10. Eat tantan Ramen.

Cost: Various but ~800-1000 yen

Opening hours: Various from place to place.

How to get there: 

The one pictured is in Tokyo mall where the character street is located. Get the Marunouchi Line towards Tokyo Station. There are many ramen stores! 

About:

Spicy but enjoyable. 

I can't describe the taste. It is just heaven. I crave this ramen everyday!!
